This weekend sees the first round of the second season of the
Global Sim Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup. With 23 competitors signed up and
a number of those being championship runners in other series within
the GSR organiziation, it is looking to be a very closely fought
series.
The cars themselves are the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Cup car which have been
completely stripped to a bear shell before being fitted with all
the race bits that range from adjustable race suspension, super
sticky tyres, a controlled ECU that is monitered by the stewards
and are subject to random checks to ensure all cars are equal.
Added to that, a racing seat and rollacage to keep the drivers
safe. A number of drivers had been quoted as saying the car is a
bit tail happy but with the grippy tyres the car is
controllable.
The calender spans 4 and a half months as the circus zig-zags over
North America going to such legendary tracks as Laguna Seca, with
its tricky corkscrew section, to the wide open banked turns of the
Indianpolis Motor Speedway Oval. With alot of variety in the
calender, the staff at GSR are putting the large entry list down to
the variety in the calender as there are racers who normally race
on the ovals entering as well as the circuit racers entering along
side them .
With no teams championship, it hasnt stopped some of the major
players from running a number of cars from the likes of MBI Racing with 6 cars,
S.E.C.R. entering
3 cars, SamKel
Racing entering 2 cars, and a whole host of single car teams
aswell, in which some will be set to grow in the lead up and
throughout the series .
The is looking set to be another classic series from the guys at
Global Sim Racing with close clean racing which is the essence of
what the series promotes most of all. Entries are still open for
any last minute teams wishing to enter.
Thanks to MrMarko for this amazing write-up!
