I won't be able to make the race this weekend due to work.
Wed 16 Apr 2014, 12:41
There will be an official practice session TONIGHT at Long Beach from 10:15pm - 11:30pm eastern. Attendance is not mandatory, but is encouraged, as we will be working on starts and restarts. Hope to see lots of cars on track tonight!

Finally got going on this today and did 20 laps or so. My best time so far is 1:12.5 with a minor tune adjustment or two. First time on the track and in the IndiCar... Are you sure the brakes work on these things? Wow its so easy to lockup and go in too hot.

It's going to be carnage with full damage LOL

I've got a practice lobby set up now if anyone wants to run some laps. I'll be on until around 5:00pm eastern.
Fri 18 Apr 2014, 19:36
Anyone hosting a practice lobby between now and tomorrows race?
Fri 18 Apr 2014, 22:28

Drivers,

Please check your inbox on the website BEFORE the race at Long Beach on Saturday. There have been some large rule changes to the series.

Just a reminder that round 1 of the IndyCar Series is TODAY at Long Beach at 3:00pm eastern / 8:00pm gmt.

The warm up lobby will be open at 1:00pm eastern / 6:00pm gmt. Qualifying will begin at 3:00/8:00 sharp.

If the rules stay as they are I am done with this series and most likely GSR. We don't have the right people to do cautions and all that shit. Yes, I agreed with the whole thing but you can't make those changes and then just send a message to people on the site. Half the members don't even check their messages! This race was bound to be a shit show ever since the changes were made. And pace cars don't stop on the fucking track either, so thanks for my damage blonde.

Oh fuck off wagon.

I would like to applaud the work and idea of this concept. In general the rules were good, but the more rules and more difficult the track the more reliant you are on the quality of the driving and that was rather hit and miss today.

There was a section of the race, in the middle, where we had no incidents and things flowed really well. People got into a rhythm.

The main problem is that people are just too aggressive, ok you can drive the circuit quick, but no you can't if there is a slower car in front of you. You have to plan your overtake and make it clean. I was forever getting tapped from behind, its the person behinds responsibility to avoid contact unless the car in front is weaving about. Also it's no good saying your inside / outside when you are not past and off the racing line, what you mean is i'm coming through regardless and if you try and stay on the racing line we will crash!

really man?
Bottom line is that it was a first, we all knew that things were bound to happen. Quitting shouldn't have been the option to take because who knows where you may have ended up. Razor hit the nail on the head, people were very aggressive and not always following race etiquette which can be addressed, for that matter, everything that went bad can be addressed in a cordial manner. Some people may not be on pace for racing this series, that's fine, then we can weed them out to other more appropriate series that are held, but there were people that are capable of running in this series that still made mistakes. The next race will be more telling now that everyone has the concept down. Amp I would suggest just calming down and tough it put until the end of the next race, then make a decision on what you want to do, but I will also advise you that points aren't just for pole positions.

Razor, I'm not sure if you're talking about me or not, since that sounded a little like our dual in the middle. If it was, I honestly didn't see anything wrong with that slight contact, just trying to stay on your rear to set you up down the straight away, especially since it's so tough to pass there. Regarding the inside/outside thing, I'll back out if I know I can't make the pass. I was just trying to give you some warning that I had a run and was looking at making a move. Better to tell you too early than too late.

All in all, that seemed like a pretty typical street race.
Sun 20 Apr 2014, 01:38
My biggest annoyance = Pits!

Blocked from going in on about lap 25 then on about lap 32 I tuned to go in the pits and was smashed into from behind and totally wrecked. After a couple of minutes the car reset itself and scraped along the wall in the pits I had no control.

I should be disqualified as I did not pit between 15 and 31 but I just could not after lap 25 even the stop i did was technically under the pace car!

BCK... no idea if I refer to you :) All I know is if someone says inside / outside I flitch and it gives them an advantage (my bad of course). The fact that my Mic went up my arse apparently LOL did not help.
Sun 20 Apr 2014, 01:44
There was only about 5 people racing in the practice sessions Friday onwards so contact was almost certain to happen. as BCK said " it was a typical street race ", and the amount of accidents wont happen at larger more open tracks. when we was in the GSREC there was almost no accidents regardless of track size or talent of drivers. It takes a lot of practice to race wheel to wheel for over an hour and frankly non of us have that ability as of yet. Yes those of you who have raced with each other before can race wheel to wheel but not with the guys you haven't is my point.

Acting like a pestilent child is not the way to air your issues towards other people.

For a good while through out the race, there was some great racing and if anything people were being a bit to cautious because they were unsure about the person in front/behind.
Sun 20 Apr 2014, 01:51
Macace21, I'm glad you are like most guys in this group that realize Amp overreacted (as usual) and that it's a good idea to calm down before posting on the internet. As far as the incidents today that I didn't see because I couldn't make the race, this was the first race of the series with new rules and procedures. Things won't always work out as planned.

Well said, think it's also worth mentioning the sudden rule change 01:45 minutes before the race started. To be clear it didn't bother me at all but could explain certain people(s) actions?
Sun 20 Apr 2014, 01:56
HSRDavey5160, I do an rFactor F1 league where we do things properly with full length races, although the driving is of a very high standard, we still suffer from incidents. I focus on keeping out of trouble and driving at my own pace. With a long race there is no rush to get past the car in front, you take your time and pick you move.

I thought it was great to do something similar here - maybe wrong track for the first race?
Sun 20 Apr 2014, 02:12
I agree. wrong track for the first race but there still would of been accidents due to the lack of experience from racing each other. The experience was why there were so many incidents and a side affect of that I guess was impatience people. I could be wrong but that's what I see.

Me I race sim as I do in actual life race hard and if someone is closing I'm going to block. the last 5 laps for me were awesome because of this.
